Alma Garza

Welcome to my online classroom!! I would like to extend a warm welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.  My name is Mrs. Alma Garza.  I am both eager and excited to work with a new group of wonderful students. I will be your child’s homeroom teacher and I will be teaching Language Arts (Reading, Grammar, Writing, and Spelling) and Math. Your child will be taught  Science by my colleague, Miss Monica Hernandez.  As a 5th grade student, your child will be filled with new responsibilities and challenges.  However, if we work together, we can assure your child’s successful completion of the 5th grade.

Let me take this time to inform you about the importance of this school year. I am sure that many of you are well aware of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test that your child will be required to take during the second semester. It is going to take a great amount of hard work, patience, and dedication to ensure student success.  I know that with your help and guidance your child will master all of his/her goals and successfully complete third grade.

The following are some of your child’s responsibilities that can be achieved with your help:

  • Daily Attendance:  New and important information will be covered on a daily basis.  Absences will cause your child to miss out on important skills and strategies and can cause him/her to fall behind.
  • Getting to school on time: School begins at 8:00 a.m.  Instruction begins promptly after daily announcements.
  • Completion of daily homework:  Homework is given to students to reinforce objectives already covered in class.  By doing this on a daily basis, your child will retain and understand what was learned more easily.
  • Following school rules and procedures:  Please encourage your child’s good behavior.  With good discipline there will be little or no unnecessary interruptions during class instruction.
  • School Uniform

Mon.-Thurs. – Red Polo shirt

Thursday – University Shirt (optional)

Friday –  Royal Blue or spirit shirt.  Only blue or black jeans allowed

**NO flip-flop shoes.

  • Electronics:  No electronic devices (CD players, DSI’s, DS, iPods, cell phones, etc.) unless special occasions allowed by the teacher or principal.

In closing, the students are my priority.  I will do all it takes to help them master all required skills.  If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at  716-6983 during my planning period (8:30-9:15). You can leave a message and I will get back to you.

                                                                                                      Thank you,

                                                                                                       Mrs. A. Garza
